Return to Thunderdome

With all the kids starting back at school, the summer has finally come to a close.  If it weren’t for the numerous snowboard video premieres coming in the next few weeks, I’d probably be bummed.  But I’m not.  Soon the sky’s will turn grey and the clouds will unleash that beautiful white fluffy powder, and snowboard season will be here.

I’m really looking forward to a good winter.  Having completed my internship with Snowboarder Magazine, I am back from California.  It was an incredible opportunity to redesign and rebuild Snowboarder’s website from scratch.  I learnt an incredible amount in the 8 weeks of design and development, and am looking forward to continuing development on their site! The guys at the mag are a great group of people, and so HUGE shoutouts to everybody back there in Cali!

Since being back for almost 3 weeks, I’ve only spent 2 nights in my own bed.  For some reason, I’ve decided to travel throughout the interior of British Columbia and elsewhere. I kind of feel like Mad Max, hence the post title. I’ve also been spending some time in Vancouver and have really taken to this city. I’m going to do my best to actually move out here and spend at least a year on the coast.  The fact that the ocean and the mountains are so close is incredible, and I don’t want to miss the opportunity to experience the city.  And speaking of ocean’s I leave you with a pic of me learning to Wake-Surf.  It’s not really an ocean, its just Shuswap Lake, but enjoy nonetheless.

Finally Settling In…

Sunday, June 7th, 2009 | 2 Comments »

It’s true, I’m finally settling in here in San Clemente, CA. I found an apartment, finished my first week of work, and am going to learn to surf and I couldn’t be happier.

I ended up finding a place in San Clemente. Its a two-bedroom apartment that I share with a design engineer from Oakley. The location is fantastic because I’m 3 blocks from the beach, and only a 25-min bike ride to work. I took some pictures on the way to work the other day, and have posted them below for you to enjoy!

Since being here I’ve also gotten a few inquiries into some contract work, which is great. Although I’m totally swamped, 4 projects on the go outside of my day job, I look forward to working with some local businesses!

Now onto the job! Snowboarder Magazine has been amazing. I’ve already met some incredibly awesome people. Being able to work at a snowboard magazine doing what I’m doing is basically a dream job for me. I sometimes wonder how I got here and have to remind myself that this isn’t a dream. And I wish I could share with you all what I’ve been working on, but alas, I cannot.  But I will post pictures as soon as its appropriate!

I hope everyone’s doing well these days! Leave comments and tell me how your doing! I’d love to find out. I hope some of you are planning trips out here, we’ve got spots for everybody. And I’m sure beers on the beach is the only excuse you need to come down! Take care everyone!
